I spent much of the past week photographing a great bunch of teenagers over from Brazil, acting as ambassadors for the Street Children’s World Cup. These kids played as a team representing Brazilian street children at the inaugural tournament in South Africa in 2010.  The next SCWC will be held in Brazil in 2014 to coincide with the official FIFA tournament.  www.streetchildworldcup.org.

Taking press & pr shots can sometimes be demanding – and those photos gaining the requisite publicity can be very difficult too – but a combination of an engaging & photogenic bunch of young people and a good press team at ABC www.abc-trust.co.uk/.the Amos Trust & SCWC www.streetchildworldcup.org/. meant their visit and the attendant publicity was very successful. Features on the BBC & The Guardian website were prominent, and there was plenty of good coverage in the trade & regional press too.

Amongst other things, visits to Parliament; Premier League games at Arsenal & QPR; a training session at Spurs; and a final day that saw a meeting with the Bishop of London sandwiched between Samba with students at South Camden Community School & an official reception hosted by the Brazilian Embassy meant the exhausted kids were very ready for their flight back to South America.

Ironically, their trips to see Arsenal lose to Wigan and QPR beat Swansea resulted in defeats for both the teams they chose to support in those games. I’m not so sure their national team will be similarly letting them down in a couple of years time on their home soil! And with the support of the SCWC foundation now behind them, these young people can look forward to a brighter future too.
